24 hours in Austin? This is how we’d spend the day in Downtown Austin.
Austin has the luxury of being incredibly walkable. It boasts beautiful parks, terrific food and drinks, and of course, amazing music!
With so many options, where should you start? We’ve got the answers for you on how we’d spend a day in our great city.
Start your day off right!
The most important meal of the day and the best way to start your morning is having a delicious breakfast. Here are some of our favorite restaurants.
If you’re going for a more sleek sit down restaurant, Trace has a very tasty breakfast and brunch. If you want something more laid back that also has FANTASTIC food and coffee, Jo’s is the spot for you. There’s no wrong answer here. Both have a fun ambience and wonderful food.
Time for an adventure!
When you’ve had your fill, let’s explore what this town has to offer. With a walking score of 92 out of 100, you can ditch the car or uber and take to the streets! Just south and across the Colorado River from both Trace and Jo’s is Butler Park. It has tons of incredible things to check out, including:
The Stevie Ray Vaughn Statue for all the music lovers
An observation hill overlooking Lady Bird Lake
A meadow
A hike
A bike path with the beautiful Austin skyline as a backdrop
After exploring the park, who doesn’t love a shopping spree? If you cross the bridge right back into the 2nd Street District you will find tons of shops including the crowd favorite, Austin Rocks. Here you can find the perfect gift for a special someone, shop for yourself, or window shop. Take a look at our retail businesses here.
Stomach’s growling again from all that walking? We’ve got you covered.
You’re in Texas, you know you need some classic Texas BBQ. Lamberts has some of the best Texas BBQ in the city. Not only does it have mouth watering food, it has local beers, classic cocktails and new world wines. Additionally, the upstairs bar and lounge often features live music! Lamberts serves amazing eats and fun live music to soak in the Austin vibes.
Time to get creative!
After you’ve had your fill of food and live music, head over to Upstairs Circus, where DIY workshop meets bar! You can either make a reservation or join a project social. A project social is an event where people gather to create projects together and have a drink with new friends.
At the social you can gather with other patrons to make a variety of DIY projects such as:
Leather working
Jewelry making
Art activities
And many more crafty items!
Upstairs Circus also has specialty cocktails, mocktails, wine, and local brews that satisfy all cravings.
Late night fun!
You’re in Austin so what better activity than catching a show at either ACL Live or 3Ten ACL Live! Enjoy a wide variety of shows from local up and coming artists to music legends. Shows typically run 7:30 - 11PM, depending on the artist.
ACL Live at the Moody Theater is a state of the art, 2,750 person live music venue. It hosts approximately 100 concerts a year. With that many shows, you’re bound to be in town when one is on.
This theater is also home to the PBS series, Austin City Limits. It’s the longest running music series in American television history.
