Austin Invited to Get Festive in 2nd Street District
2nd Street District announced ‘Get Festive in 2nd Street District’ - the month-long holiday celebration that will welcome the Holiday Window Walk and Santa on 2nd events this holiday season. New this year, the Holiday Window Walk will feature art installations from local Texas artists. Additionally, the Santa on 2nd event at the W Austin hotel will invite Austinites to snap a photo with Santa, partake in holiday crafts, and more. Throughout the holiday season, locals and visitors alike can head downtown to get in the holiday spirit while doing some holiday shopping and supporting local businesses in the 2nd Street District.
Holiday Window Walk
Starting on Friday, November 25, visitors can watch the storefronts of 2nd Street District businesses transform into decorative holiday scenes during the twelfth annual Holiday Window Walk. This year, the District is working with professional Texas artists to create holiday-inspired art installations in the storefront windows. Participating stores include Bonobos, Luxe Apothetique, and Sneaker Politics. Learn more about the local artists below.
Sara Cardona
Sara Cardona was born in Mexico City and currently lives and works in Dallas. She makes collages in the style of early 20th-century assemblage and with a nod to the way films are edited by cutting and pasting pieces of paper. These collages then become the foundation for large-scale sculptures in paper and metal.
Audrianna Woods
Audrianna Woods is a Houston-based artist. Audrianna expresses herself through her paintbrush in ways that words cannot, and she allows her passions to inspire her. Her vision is to use her gift to spread love by capturing and expressing beauty in the world in a way that people can relate to.
Freemindxart
Free is a self-taught artist known for her expressive, soulful, wildly colorful, chaotic art, and cut out art. One of her favorite styles of art is deconstructing a canvas and sewing it back together to create a wonderful new masterpiece. She began this style to tell the story of her own struggles with mental health and she did so with an unexpected tool - thread.
Santa on 2nd
On Saturday, December 3, Austinites are invited to celebrate the holidays with 2nd Street District during the Santa on 2nd holiday event at the W Austin hotel. From 12-4 p.m. guests can snap their annual photo with Santa for free (prints & digital copies will be provided), create holiday crafts, and enjoy hot non-alcoholic beverages & cookies.
During the event guests can also sneak away to the Apres Ski: Holiday Bar at W Austin. W Austin’s Living Room will be transformed into a cozy ski lodge bar where you can enjoy delicious winter beverages, holiday entertainment, and photo ops.
Visitors are encouraged to shop local this holiday season and check out the many retail stores, restaurants, and more in the 2nd Street District. Shop for the perfect holiday outfit at Hemline or Stella Dallas or order tailored clothing from Bonobos or League or Rebels. Stop by DIY craft store and bar, Upstairs Circus to make a festive craft to give as a gift or visit Finley’s Barbershop to get the perfect hair before that big holiday party. Enjoy brunch, lunch, or dinner at one of the many local restaurants in the District - there’s something for everyone!
